The Core Skills: Advanced Bariatric & Roux-en-Y Laparoscopic Surgery Workshop aims to create an educational environment in which consultant surgeons and senior trainees are encouraged to exchange ideas and information pertaining to the latest advances in upper GI and bariatric surgery. The workshop will use a combination of pre-reading, didactic sessions, discussion and practical skill stations using fresh human cadaver material. The workshop focuses on the sleeve gastrectomy and the Roux-en-Y bypass (RYGB). Procedural discussions will include: complications of gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy; RYGB procedural overview; revision of sleeve gastrectomy; complications of RYGB and the management of reflux.

Consultant Surgeons and SET 5 Surgical Trainees. Observer positions are available for SET 1 – 5 Trainees. Limited positions are available for Theatre Nurses in assisting and scrubbing for workshop participants.

Associate Professor Michael Talbot
Dr Talbot is a UNSW Conjoint Associate Professor in Surgery with more than 10 years of experience with laparoscopic re-sectional and revision bariatric surgery.
His upper GI practice has a focus on surgery for benign and malignant conditions, and he has an interest in robotics, GI motility, therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP.
